Strand Enhancement on the Drawing Board The Strand Enhancement Scheme in Dawlish will take a significant step forward in the coming weeks. Devon County Council have already outlined some ideas to various groups in the town. They have now organised a Consultation Meeting with the Dawlish Chamber of Trade to listen to the views of the people who stand to gain most when the work is carried out. Chairman of the Chamber of Trade, David Force, is excited at the possibilities presented by the proposals. “It is marvellous that nearly £1.5 million has been earmarked to improve the Strand. The area can be a nightmare with cars, taxis, delivery lorries and pedestrians battling to negotiate their way through the chicane road system and badly parked vehicles.” “This represents a once in a generation opportunity to improve our town centre and attract more shoppers to the town. The proposed out of town supermarket is bound to have an effect on the local shops, so we need to make the Dawlish shopping experience as attractive and welcoming for as many people as possible.” Devon County Council will be presenting their thoughts and listening to the views of the traders at the Brunswick Arms on Thursday 8th July at an 8.00 am Breakfast Meeting. All traders in the town, not just Chamber of Trade members, are invited to attend. Please RVSP to Force and Sons, 9 Queen Street, Dawlish by Monday 5th July (if you are able to attend.) as this will assist with the catering. Devon County Council will listen to the wishes of the traders, formulate various schemes and present these at a Public Consultation Meeting, probably in October. It is hoped that work will start early in 2011 and be completed within a year. Editorial for the Dawlish Gazette and Dawlish Post. From David Force 01626 772671 Chairman Dawlish Chamber of Trade
